The Cheltenham Gag applies poll pressure to increase control without upping the severity of the mouthpiece. The eggbutt cheeks of this bit gives the bit some stability to increase the horse's confidence and acceptance of the contact, and is often selected for horses that are prone to rubbing as the static cheek piece reduces friction. This bit must always be used in conjunction with running gag cheeks to gain the correct pressure distribution.
This Cheltenham Gag is fantastic for use during faster work such as jumping but should only be employed by knowledgeable riders as misuse of this strong bit can cause oral damage.
